We will talk about the businëngë maroons, these communities built from several cultures and
traditions of West Africa.

They are Afro-descendants from South America. Precisely in Suriname and french-Guiana,
countries where direct descendants of Africans maintain the languages, religions and
lifestyles similar to West African communities like Akan people .

● How were these Afro-descendant communities able to keep ancestral knowledge
and how to transmit it today, in a way of life where we must resist assimilation and in
which we are made to believe that our customs, our gods, our spirits, our ancestors
don’t have a place to exist ?
● What is the place of the Maroons in a contemporary society today, their connections
with Africa as well as spirituality?
● What is winti ? I would talk about my personal experiences in the spirituality of the
Maroons.
