Maculele is a stick fighting dance developed by African descendants in Brazil. it was practiced by enslaved Africans cutting sugar cane in the Santo Amaro region of the country. Maculele is traditionally danced with machetes. In modern times, the machetes are replaced by sticks for safety. The dance is performed to drums and other percussion instruments from Candomble houses.
